28 Jully 1979: Birgitta Haukdal born

'Open your heart' was one of the most upbeat Icelandic entries to the Eurovision Song Contest ever. This bright, poppy song was performed by Birgitta Haukdal at the 2003 edition. Born on 28 July 1979, she started her music career at 20, replacing the lead vocalist of the group Írafár. They released their debut album 'Allt sem ég sé' in early November. It is Iceland's fastest selling pop album of the last 25 years, reaching platinum - which is not common in Iceland.

Birgitta was chosen to represent Iceland with 'Open your heart' the next year. The song finished in eighth place in a field of 26 competitors.
